getting started

This is a very basic question but I'm just getting started: there are a LOT of folks out there selling backups of their original FCS at very low rates, insisting there are no drawbacks. I assume this is too good to be true? It's important to me that whatever purchase I make be not only fully functional and upgradable, but also legal.

Well, that sounds awfully dodgy to me.... Buy direct from a good dealer or Apple and then you're safe and sure.
