RAID for capture scratch or render files?

I'm installing an internal RAID using two SATA drives in my Mac Pro. I'm not using a RAID controller card, I'm just using OS X's RAID utility.

For the best performance, should I use this RAID for capture scratch or render files?

I can't really see what the deciding factors would be. Does it depend on how much rendering I do? Does it depend on the compression of my rushes?

I currently use external FW800 drives for all my media and I have an existing internal SATA drive for OS X and render files.

Both. ANY AND ALL media should be stored on the fasted RAID you have. THey are both media, both referenced by FCP as media.

No....it depends on whether or not your footage is MEDIA. Renders, captures are media. I even put PICTURES and AUDIO on my Capture drives, mainly to keep everything in one location, because I am an organization hound.

Project files, on your system drive. EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE PROJECT, on the Capture Scratch.

This raid will be far faster than your FW drives.

Yea, the RAID is usually what we call "the media drive". That gives us the shebangz to get our work done in good time.
