Hi I have a new Sony A7s that records in xavc-s. Cant transcode it in mpeg stream clip. Any suggestions? Need to do it today so suggesting an external recorder won't work.

Have you tried Blackmagic Da Vinci Resolve?

The Lite version is free and it handles XAVC-S MP4s so you can transcode to ProRes for you as per this article for XAVC:

It's sluggish as hell using XAVC-S though but free.

Adobe Media Encoder also works well but you will need to get an Adobe CC 2014 trial for free then if you want to continue using it you'll have to pay a subscription. [www.adobe.com]

If you have access to FCPX 10.1.2 that's the best option - it will handle XAVC-S like a hot knife through butter. [www.apple.com]
