USB for Video Ingest

I've noticed that some companies are not using firewire (iLink IEEEE, etc.) anymore to transfer video from the camera to the computer (Mac). Why not make it so, that you can use the USB connection. I still use tape in my SD & HD camera's.

USB sends data in packets, so it doesn't work for real-time tasks involving tapes. Only cameras that shoot directly to files would be able to use USB effectively, because then it's a file-copying process that's out of real time. Same reason why USB drives can't be used for capturing or outputting to tape.
