Interesting -- how to get used to the new final cut before it comes out

Imovie transforms into FCP X look alike

The guy's right. Like it or not, this is where we're headed.

Actually, we've been using iMovie since the FCPX sneak-peak at NAB. All you really need for DSLR work is a Mac Mini. It takes about an hour to learn. Organize, pre-select, rough cut and then hit share to send out an FCP xml for finishing (at the moment) in FCP7. I trained a producer and a client on this workflow recently. They went off on a DSLR shoot and came back with "their edit" already prepped for "mastering".

Is that a good or a bad thing? Honestly, no idea yet. Beyond all the current speculation, I see things with our real-life clients changing very quickly already.

Meantime, we've been getting seriously into CS5, Cinema 4D, Resolve and Nuke over the past year, not wanting to wager the future of the business on one set of apps and thus hedging our bets against Apple ceasing development on Motion, Color, DVD Studio Pro, Soundtrack Pro as they did with Shake. The lack of any information on the future of the Pro-Apps has led us to spend our money elsewhere and raise the skill set. Very unfortunate, but I have business to run and clients to deal with.

Thats what i was thinking also CLAY.

SApple doesn't mention future plans or even issue reassurances and the gap from fcp7 to FCPX was large. Made it feel like it wasn't important. Apple is becoming a consumer only company. I wouldn't be surprised to see the towers phased out.

Adobe doesn't make cool consumer products. they make software. They are also after the FCP market. I can kinda see Masters Suite or Production premium putting a dent in apples hold on the editing community over the next 3-5 years.

Premier and AE as a team is like the Miami Heat if they had Dwight Howard & Chris Paul also. Thats a beast combo for editing from Adobe.

Did you also bet against the iPod and the iPhone? Are you like those people who heard rumours of the iPhone, doubted it existed, then doubted it would be a player and then doubted the app store would be a factor?
You know, the people that made all sorts of assumptions based on leaked photos and rumours from assembly plants and have been consistently wrong since the get go?

It's not that those very successful products are also consumer products that you should pay attention to it's that Apple did their thing when they were ready and all the pundits and doomsayers said it was the wrong timing. Those seers were so very wrong on almost all counts. Pay attention to the signal, not the noise.

A more pointless arrangement of words could not be strung together if you were playing a DaDa cutup game.
Here is one example of one reason why I wouldn't put all my eggs in the Adobe basket just yet.
Adobe are good, don't get me wrong. David McGavran(spelling?) is an Adobe Premiere coder and/or product specialist who posts frequently over at RedUser, they are making a strong play and are very attentive to many segments, but they have plenty of work to do before I would build a massive system around it that could do all the things I need it to do, no questions asked, no apologies.
Let's keep it somewhat non-hyperbolic until the facts are in.
