Camera importing MTS files as iTunes Documents???

Hello all:

Please can someone tell me how to fix this situation:

I have files on my camera that I can read / play back fine on the camera.

When I import to FCPX they appear as MTS files but instead of AVCHD in the file type description they appear with the description itunes document and are greyed out & not visible.

I would greatly appreciate any help as I am trying to hit a deadline.
