Vocal Transformer Issues

Just curious if anyone is having issues with the vocal transformer filter.
I adjust the filter until the desired effect is achieved. But when I output the file it doesn't sound like what plays off the timeline, very choppy. I've tried various formats (AAC, AIFF, MP3) both on the source audio and output, but nothing seems to work.

Also, I don't know if this is related, but depending on where I put the playhead, sometimes the effect sounds strange for a moment (like a robot) until I stop and start again. I've attributed this just to my processor trying to catch up with the real time play back.
