Hey Nick have you bought that Avid yet? (Bill here)

hi Bill.

the $995 deal is officially over as of last Friday, but i've read reports of people still getting it in the 'States.
(the deal is $1100 here.. whats with that? the Aussie Dollar is supposed to be better then the US one)

with the sort of work you & i do, which is predominantly broadcast or film there are really only two options: Avid or FCP
obviously FCPX is currently not an option, and while it seems like it has some interesting new paradigms, i'm not confident it will be a genuine option for a long time.

it was pretty clear that i'd be having to learn some form of new editing software,
until a couple of days ago i just wasn't sure what it was going to be: FCPX, or Avid (or Premiere)

i'd better call Avid Australia and see if i can still get the deal.

i wonder what's going on over at the ABC?
(for those outside Aus, that's the Australian Broadcasting Corp, the government Broadcaster.
a few years ago they did a complete change-over from Avid to FCP.)

[It's exactly what X should have been. ]

I find Premiere's interface way too cluttered; too many objects distracting the eye. (So imagine how I feel about all the needless stim in FCPX-- said he jerking spasmodically]

Prediction:
A wild guess; Walter Murch won't be editing Coppola's next feature on it.
There lies the wisdom of mastering both major systems.

Prediction II:
LAFCPUG becomes LADVUG for the general "digital editing" community, which they already serve. That sounds OK. And Mike, this time I'm CHARGING for the name change, I let you guys get away with murder over the coining of SuperMeet...

But BOSFCPUG becomes BOSDVUG-- geez even if you speak Russian that just doesn't roll off the tongue at all, it's clinging and ripping out my taste buds...Dan, branding emergency! BODVUG? Hm.

Question: burial or cremation?

great vid, although i would hesitate to refer to 'it' as FCP10. on the up-side 24 hrs since opening up Premier, i've pretty much got it down.

enjoyed FCP for the last 11 years, some killer cuts. ce-la-vie,

Yep that price despite the A$ worth more. Apple are charging A$349 as well. Noby has faith the Oz$ will stay high I guess. Or they are ripping us off.

Got my Avid, got my old FCP (for now).

Get that Avid Nick v 5.5 is great.

ABC must be screaming.
