Do I need Compressor X to make FCPX function properly?

Do I need Compressor X to make FCPX function properly?

Like a fool, I bought FCPX. Then, when I imported a couple of shots, FCPX went into a slo-mo tizzy and started behaving strangely - gurgling and urinating on the floor. So I assumed that it was trying to find Compressor X for transcoding and bought that for $50.

Do I need Compressor X to make FCPX do its "Import and Transcode" thing?

If I don't, I might as well try to get my fifty bucks back.

Any opinions?

Or maybe, rightly, nobody gives a hoot. I deserve this nonsense for buying something untested.

Best

Harry.

New Compressor is Compressor 4. I suspect you'd need it for Share/Send to Compressor and Share/Export Using Compressor Settings. I would think the other Share features should work just as the presets in Quicktime X work (and can't be altered).

Thanks for the reply, Craig.

I think, just for fun, I'll try to get my $50 back from Apple. I wonder how they'll take to that.

My guess is under the current circumstances they'd probably give you your money back. They've been doing that with FCPX purchases. Although Compressor 4 has hooks into FCPX, has some new presets, I think behaves as if it's automatically in a virtual cluster (I need to double check that), it's still 32bit so it's not a major upgrade. It seems closer to an update than an upgrade.
