Shortening a clip in the storyline without rippling

Most of the time you want to shorten a clip and ripple the storyline, but what happens if you don't? You don't want things to move. I know you can cut out a section and replace with a gap, but is there any way to drag and replace with a gap?

Highlight the clip or bladed section you want and press [shift+backspace]

[Backspace] does a ripple delete.

Dragging clip(s) in position mode [p] will add a gap where you make it or overwrite instead of insert/ripple magnetic timeline.

This is one of the things I think they got right. The default ripple behavior and a very simple option to not ripple.
Just being redundant.
Postion tool (just hit P)
Shift Delete (delete and replace with gap and it maintains the connected clips relationships too).

It amazes me how some things are well thought out and designed for simplicity and other features looked like an editor never even beta tested.

Michael Wohl called the Position tool the Final Cut Pro 7 tool. I think it's fitting.
