Alex4D Dimensions effect: Helpful for making videos with non-standard frame dimensions

Posted by Alex4D
Here's the next set:

They're a set of effects that allow you to matte to the exact pixel dimensions you want your final output to be.

There's one for the four major project settings in Final Cut Pro 10.0.

Once you place one of these titles above everything else in your project, you can continue working knowing how much of your footage will be visible in the final output.

You can also reduce the strength of the matte to see slightly beyond the edge of your final video.

Download link over at my blog, plus demo video and tips for cropping videos to their final size.

Lots more to come!

I've updated the post to mention that you can choose the in point for the clips by selecting instances in the timeline instead of clips in the event library:

Working an a Widescreen effect - Any aspect ratio requests?
July 12, 2011 12:51PM
I'm finishing off an improved Widescreen effect that I plan to post in the next couple of days.

Here's the pop-up menu of aspect ratios:

Any missing ratios you'd like?

Alex - will this be a generator or a regular effect filter?

We've been working with a (custom) widescreen-matte generator for the old FCP all these years. We've always found this to be easier to use instead of the built-in widescreen filter that you have to drop on each individual clip.

We just dropped the generator on a video track above everything else (Avid-style...)

Keep up the great work! It's very inspiring what you're doing!

Markus,

Thanks.

It'll be a title generator, so it can be dropped on the whole timeline.

Alex4D Dip to Background: Choose a colour, clip or transparency for dip
August 04, 2011 03:49PM
I've come up with a replacement for the Dip To Color transition for Final Cut Pro 7.

If the transition is on a secondary storyline, you can choose for the Opacity of the dip to be 0, so that the storyline underneath becomes momentarily visible.

There is also a lot of control over by when the previous clip fades out and when the next clip starts to fade in.

Using this control, you can fade out the previous clip and the transition can be the next clip fading in over a background. If the background is white, you get a flash frame effect.

Alex4D Smooth Move effect: Apply to a clip for Ease In and Out animation curves
August 04, 2011 04:32PM
This effect moves, rotates and scales the clip it is applied to. You define the strat position, rotation and scale. You also choose an end position, rotation and scale.

There are 'Constant' and 'Ease Both' curves for all three parameters. There's also an 'Exponential' curve for large changes in scale.

You can also control when the animation starts and ends in terms a percentage of the total length of the clip.

This is great Alex, any chance for FCP 7 version?

I used to make FxScript-based effects for Final Cut Pro 7, but that was years ago. Sadly I've almost forgotten my FxScript skills, so I'm sticking to making effects in Motion.
