Question to the NTSC members of this forum

I am living in the wonderful non drop PAL world. That doesn't mean I don't have to care about drops.
With X there is one thing which makes me curious: why can you create a 29.97 project with both DF or NDF?
29.97 NDF had been an odd format for audio, but I've never seen that for video.

Regards
Andreas

Over the years, I've known a few graphic artists who prefer to work with NDF because they claim it makes calculating the number of frames a bit easier especially if the work crosses a minute point where the frames drop.

My guess about NDF is that it makes it easier to conform back to film. Of course, I don't understand NDF in the FCP X sense, since FCP X comes in at a juncture where it assumes film is dead.

Thanks for the answers.

My thoughts are, it's either 29.97 or 30. 30 could have NTSC timing like 24 could have NTSC timing, but 24 never never has DF even though it is 23.976 and finally would need a DF to display the correct timecode (wall clock).
Seems to be complicated.

It's 30, but played at 29.97 due to the sound interfering with the chroma sub carrier from the analog days.
