FCPX Files Management?

What's the best way to set up FCPX files? I'm amazed that the program seems to automatically create copies of the footage into an event folder. This can take up many Gigs of space. Are people deleting original media once this process is completed? This happens even though I uncheck the box about copying files to the event folder.

Do not "copy files to final cut events folder", and do not "create optimized media" and do not "create proxy media".

It depends on the kind of media.

For example P2 stuff if always wrapped and copied - regardless of what you check.

Thanks for the tips. I'll look up the workflow. I'm sure I'm not the only one a bit frustrated that the workflow we're accustomed to from years of experience is no long applicable. I'm used to FCP projects linking to media...not creating their own media. Of course, part of this may be the kind of auto-transcoding the program is doing to bring in things like ACVHD files.
