sync video with audio from other recorder

My DP shot my short video on a Canon 5D and recorded the audio on a separate recorder, a Zoom.

I imported all the audio and video files into Final Cut Pro X.

Now all I see are a lot of files with numbers in the event browser. How do I know which audio file goes with what video file so that I can sync them.

All I could come up with is the idea of looking at the video and renaming each file according to the scene and take number on the clapboard. And then listening to each audio file and renaming the file according to what was verbally said regarding the scene and take numbers.

Is my thinking correct. Or is there a a better and easier way. Thank you

Your thinking is correct.
To make it easier you can sort files by time in the event browser.
