control of transition progress in FCPX ?

I want to have a clip appear in a round or oval shape over and in the middle of another clip. The circle transition would be perfect if I could lock the size of the circle and hold it through the running of the clip. Is there a way to do this, or another tool I should use for this purpose? Thanks
