Upgrading RAM from 8GB to 16GB on 2.8 Quad Core Xeon helpful for FCP?

I've been having a lot of crashes and "out of memory" alerts lately in Final Cut Pro (latest version.) Will upgrading RAM to 16GB do anything for me? I would be using all new RAM which maybe in itself would be good?

excuse me, but FCP 7 isn't a 64-bit application. So the max. memory for FCP7 is 4 GB.

FCP7 isn't "the latest version of Final Cut Pro". The original poster was posting in the Cafe LA - X forum. He's asking about FCPX.
