Running FCP X with FCP v.6 on same mac

I have been using FCP v.6 on my Mac Pro 2.66 GHz Quad Core Xeon, 12GB RAM, running OSX 10.6.8, and recently decided to upgrade to FCPX. I'm comfortable with the workflow for projects with FCP 6, and I can manage anything I am asked to do. I don't know FCPX yet, and I can't get rid of my working editing apps until I'm proficient on FCPX, but snow leopard won't let me run both versions of FCP on my mac. There must be a workaround for this, but searching forums far and near, I can't find any reference or solution to this problem.

Does anyone know whether I can successfully run the different versions of FCP in different user accounts? Or any other reasonable way to work with the two versions on one machine?

Why won't Snow Leopard let you run them both? The two apps cannot be open at the same time, but they can certainly be installed on the same machine and run sequentially.

Thanks so much, that makes it easy. I was apparently misinformed about the impossibility of using both apps on same system. Sorry it took this long to get back and thank you for your help; family drama involving sudden health crisis took me out of circulation for a little while, thankfully things have calmed down now!
