How much ram for motion and FCP X?

Purchasing a new imac for a non-profit to work on video, will 16 gigs be enough for the ram? Or will it actually use 32 gigs?

Apple recommends a minimum of 8GB. I say install as much as you can afford. It will only help you to have more room/RAM for your editing apps to work in.
