Make image black and red only

If you look at this movie trailer from 1980, the image changes from color to red and black (from 2m 11s)

How can I re-create this effect in FCPX? I have tried fiddling around with hues, color grading with no luck so far.

Do you mean the key cut out matte?

This technique would work albeit a bit more complex.

Basically cut a hole in the layer above.

Or mask out the layer above.
