Media Manager Move w Clip Names

I do this a lot:

re-name clip after capture by using Media Manager.
-MOVE mode
-Dont delete unused
-Base Media File Names on CLIP NAMES

choose the same drive as the capture scratch.

the files get moved to another directory on the same drive, AND get re-named in the process.

All well and good,
BUT
if i have another project open, which references the same media,
i get the usual warning:
"x number of items outside your current selection have been found to reference media about to be processed during this operation"
this is expected, and desirable,
but when i do the opertation, the files move, AND THE NAMES STAY THE SAME.
(i have the source column open for verification)

i trashed preferences, and tested again..
one project... Names Change
more than one project... Names DO NOT change

as a workaround i tried putting the entire contents of the second project into a new foilder in hte first project, and closing the second one, so only one project

bad news: same result. NAMES DONT CHANGE.
