Within the last week, on two different systems, I've had big renders cause a FCP crash- causing a loss of hours of work, and forced downtime while I babysit a series of smaller incremental renders, frieking out about blowing deadlines.
None of the, say 2.5 hours worth of a 4.5 hour, render gets saved along the way. All rendering must be completed first, with the Autosave waiting in line patiently to have some access.. Until a crash takes down the whole enchilada.
Motion projects were involved in both cases, with FCP6 and FCP7 on otherwise solid workstations.
I guess this is more of a plea for a software enhancement than a bug report.
Between more and more Motion use and HD workflows, big renders will continue to be a part of our lives, and I for one would love to sleep a little more soundly while our machines do what work they can for us.
