subtitle import, line breaks

I am importing subtitles as plain txt (RTF) and according to the manual, line breaks should be marked with "vertical pipe character". But I find no character with that name in any of the special character palettes, and "vertical line" (which looks alike) doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Actually, I need the same thing....a "vertical pipe character" or other character which will successfully create a line break in my rtf file for subtitle import. Per Mannstaedt's post is from 2004 so I hope someone might be able provide an answer by now.
