moving pic possibility?Posted by martinp
Does anyone know if it is possible for an image to move from one point to another point on the screen when it is selected and then 'enter' or 'play' is pressed.
I've been given a project that requires images to move along a set path everytime they are selected. It sounds like a project that isn't posssible.... But i'm sure there maybe a way round it. Advise greatly appreciated
In a strict way, it's not part of the DVD specs. It's doable, but... 1) it's rather complex and 2) As has been recently discussed here, other creative limitations arise as a consequence.
Basically, what you need to do is to enable automatic navigation on the menu. Automatic navigation is a feature that activates (rather than select) a button automatically (duh) when the user goes to that button. What you do, then, is create twin menus for each button. Each twin menu with the animation/motion path you mention. This way, when the user believes is selecting a button, the DVD is actually switching to a separate, twin menu that's identical except for the button animation. The creative limitations are: if you have animated elements under the buttons, it will be very evident that a jump/break is taking place, so you would have to avoid that. Also, audio that relies on seamless, continuous playback would make this switch very evident. The best solution is to come up with audio design embraces this instead of trying to hide it (for example, the audio is replaced with a sound effect when the button moves, then returns to a normal track). That'd be all. Hope this helps, Adolfo Adolfo Rozenfeld Buenos Aires - Argentina www.adolforozenfeld.com
Thanks Adolfo,
Interesting comments.....the trouble is that i have 8 images on the same screen - when one image is selected and moves from point a to point b the others images must still remain on the screen......bit like a Monopoly board, whereby 'pieces' (in this case images) move one square at a time across the screen......and you can choose any of the images to move one square at a time. ...this is a tricky one!!
You can make an hybrid disc, one that mixes DVD-Video with interactive Flash or Shockwave content. Of course that will only play back on computers (at least the interactive content), but it would be the only way to do what you say. The last version of Macromedia Director, for example, allows you to create interactive Shockwave material that links to video on a DVD (I assume you want also video to be on the disc, otherwise why make a DVD, right?)

Another possibility...
Create a series of videos. Each video would contain the menu animation you describe. Place the videos on the desired tracks and assign chapter markers to each. The menu selection can take you to the appropriate menu animation video videos (perhaps using a story) and that video end jumps to the real video. With 8 menu selections, that probably mean 64 menu animation videos (maybe more... math is not my strong suit anymore). However, it would allow you to get as fancy with the animations as you want, while keeping the actual menu simple. bob rice frameworx media Sorry, you do not have permission to post/reply in this forum.
