Chapter Marker import problem

Chapter Marker import problem
October 27, 2008 04:57PM
I am trying to create a very simple dvd using imported chapter markers (there is only one marker) from FCP 5. I have exported a quicktime movie (not self-contained) with include all markers. When I import it to DVDSP 4 the marker is not there. I have not included a menu, because I don't want to confuse the viewers (an older couple) but I want them to be able to forward to the marker if they want to. The marker is still in FCP when I go back to check. I thought the markers were supposed to make the transition from FCP to DVDSP, what is wrong?

As an update, I tried to go the FCP to Compressor to DVDSP route, but the chapter marker didn't import to compressor either, and neither did the audio.

Have you set a marker or a chapter marker in FCP? Press "M" once to set a marker but then press "M" again to open the window and then select "chapter marker".

Yes, I had a chapter marker all set up, but it just didn't follow through to DVDSP.

I'm having the same problem. First the chapter markers show up in the wrong place in the compressor preview window and then do not import at all into DVDSP4.

My work process is - Chapter Markers placed in timeline in FCP 6.0.2
Export sequence as QuickTime Movie Ref.
Compress in Compressor 3.0.2
Import MPEG-2 and AC3 Files into DVDSP 4.2.1

No CHAPTER MARKERS.

Any Thoughts?

In DVDSP it is best to switch the Track timeline to Asset Based Timecode, if you haven't already, for TC based stuff like Chapters, Subtitles etc. Right Click on the TC bar to do this. Just below the Chapter Marker Area and above V1.

Do this before adding to the Track.

In the Encoder Settings (in Compressor) check the Extras tab and make sure DVDSP Metadata/Include Chapter Markers is selected.

Worst case (give or take is the I-Frame was inserted at the frame) you can just add the marker in DVDSP... for a quick fix,
