Button dissolve in DVD studio pro

Does anybody know how to make simple buttons dissolve in to a motion menu in DVD studio pro? I created the background scenes in Motion and have the text dissolve in. Just need to know how to get the buttons to dissolve in. Any help would be appreciated.

There are two things here - the visual effect of a text dissolve, and the button hotspots that will allow you to select an item on the menu.

The dissolves for the text are fine - but a button hotspot cannot dissolve in - it is either there, or not there. The usual way of thinking about this is that the early part of your menu containing the animated aspects and dissolves appears and then settles into a static image. Once settled, the button hotspots can be made available. The menu will then complete and loop back to either the initial animation, or the point where the buttons are available. If the latter, this will require a loop point marker.

When you create a standard menu you also need an overlay file that holds the graphics for the button highlights. It is the same for a motion menu, and you must create a full size pict or tiff image with just the underline, tick, spot or whatever for each button. When done, import it to DVDSP and add it to the menu as the overlay.

In the property inspector, set the loop point marker control to a place just after the menu footage has settled, and draw out your button rectangles just the same as for a standard menu. Set the navigation and targets in exactly the same way. The rest is handled by DVDSP and should just work.

You should now have a menu that plays an introductory animation and then has buttons in place, and also loops back to the point where the buttons are available. Whenever you leave a track to get to this menu, or whenever you target it from another menu, you have to choose whether to play the animation or not. If you do, you simply target the menu. If you don't you need a short script that points to the loop point on the menu.

Have a read up on 'loop point' in the DVDSP manual.

Thank you so much for your excellent explanation of how to do this. I was stumped.
