Creating a lightning effect in Motion

I saw the thread from January but it didn't answer the question. Volumetrix is great for running a title, but what about just doing a lighting effect. After Effects has a lightning generator; can we do the same in Motion?

If not, is there a plugin (not sapphire) that is available?

(please note, I am using Motion 2 in FCP HD Studio)

If you are using Motion 3, there are a couple of Lightning movie sprites in the Content section of the Library. You could loop them and using retiming behaviors to control them.
