3D Text Q-how to get rid of black background w/a color?

Hi,

I've created an opening montage using Motion 3's 3D text project template called Large Format HD. My question is, how do I get rid of the black in the background? The client wants a color there and I cannot for the life of me figure out a way to do that. I was able to add photos and a color within the "replace here" boxes, but still have black in the background.

Also, does anyone know if there a way to extend the very first part of the "text field of view" template?
