Video Wall Tutorial with Stills- Can It be done with video clips?

In the tutorial on applemotion.net where you set up a 5x5 grid and load up your
25 pictures all scaled appropriately, I have a question.

To get the replicator to work without frame motion on the stills, you must
disable the "play frames", so that the camera will show a matrix of 25 different
pictures.

Now, instead of 25 pics you substitutes 25 QT movies, you would to my understanding
still have to have "play frames" disabled for the desired effect.
However, would this mean that Motion would only show the first frame of each of
the 25 QT files?

Thanks for your help

That's correct. If you want every copy to show a playing version of each movie, you need to string all your movies together into one movie, each "sub-movie" lasting the same duration, say 10 seconds. You then enable Play Frames in the Replicator, and then set the Frame Offset, in this case, to 10 seconds or 300 frames. Now each copy will play starting 300 frames later, so each will play its own sub-movie.

This works as described; but just like 3d studio max, it will suffer from the
S_L_O_W SYNDROME; as it tries to update to the screen 25 discreet video
images.

It works in theory; but just like 3d Studio Max; don't expect anywhere near
realtime playback.

I experimented and will move on.

Thanks

Hi Mark@-
I'm the writer of the tutorial you mention- I have one that describes what Mark S told you to do here- [www.jamesnweber.com]. At the end, I suggest downrezing the files for increased playback performance. I'm not aware of any hard drive that will play back 25 streams of DV in real time. So, of course you'll have to Render. But downrezing the files should help a lot.
