How do I make a HD Motion templates fit into my standard def timeline?

Just drop it in. FCP will resize it to fit. Of course, it will be letterboxed since the aspect ratios don't match.

Okay - I guess I can live with combining the letterbox with non. Maybe I can put a fake letterbox on the other footage to make it look like it matches.

Here's another problem I'm having:

I'm working with Tech Blue Motion HD template. I'm trying to footage of a speaker into the drop zone on the left. It's a medium shot like from the belt line up with a little head room. I export a QT file of the portion of the video I want. But then when I go to place it in the drop zone, it enlarges the video and chops his head off. Do I need to export the drop zone footage at smaller size or something? What size do I need to export the drop zone footage so it will fit?

Shelley,

I would "open copy in Editor" from FCP and try the different Fit options for the dropzone in the Inspector.
