Well said Antonio.

I am way ahead of you, Antonio! I have had freelance clients from my home studio since '96. The reason for the disappointment is that my current work rig matched up with my home rig. I was able to bring projects into work and lay them off to DigiBeta, ya follow?? I was able to bring projects home and finish up.

Now, the studio (my department - if it happens) will probably move to Xpress Pro w/Mojo for 1:1 (which I already know, but I don't have a Mojo at home, ya follow?)

I am ALWAYS thinking independently...I just dispise the PC and the architecture. I have been on a Mac since '96 and I have NEVER received (or sent) a virus. My home box will ALWAYS be a Mac.

(*sigh*)

Sorry to go back on topic -

Mike, you say that for Motion the G4 wants 2G RAM. Isn't the max RAM in a Quicksilver 2002 1.5G (512MB max per slot x 3 slots)? That was my understanding.

Ok, back off topic:

Joe:
As for your shop going XP - it'll be interesting to see what the nerds say when they get call after call from the artists trying to keep the XP editing systems running. And none of the creative staff can make the Win systems work for them (they *are* different). And who pays for the retraining? And then who's to answer to the boss when the deadlines are missed? This could actually be a crushingly bad business decision.

I'm a PC guy myself (who likes his Mac very much), but I have to say that for a creative/art project-oriented shop to dump it's Macs is the dumbest line of thinking ever. Don't these guys ever leave their martini parties and venture into the real world?

I'm with Mike - XP is way more stable than any previous version, but keeping up with the drivers and security updates (and then new rounds of drivers after each MS update) will keep those IT boys hopping! Hell, they might even lose something off those love handles!

Michael,

www.naprovig.org has one forum the encounpases all four of the Apple Pro Video products.

The forum is open for business even though the web site is still in progress.

Check out the current FAQ page and let me know what you think of the idea!

Looks good John although the colors are a bit tough on the eyes, at least mine.

I'm not sure if you really need ALL of those forums. People tend to look at the number of threads and posts on a forum and if there is very few they just as soon post on a forum that they feel will be read. Starting out with this many will make it tough for you to grow all of them.

I'd start out with just the pro apps forums and see how they do and then add the sub sets from there.

"The Art Director and the Creative Services Director has brought up the strong possibility of all creative departments going totally PC early next year (14 - G4's & G5's... 3 with full Final Cut Pro HD / AJA I/O workstations)...all just so the I.S. department can get one support contract (PC) to fix all the machines in the building (240 peeps - all on PC) and not have to hire a "specialty Mac guy" as they call it (I think I'm gonna hurl tongue sticking out smiley )"

As someone who supported a bunch of mac labs at a university - it takes 3 times as many pc people to support the same amount of pcs as it takes a mac person to support macs. Which means more work, and better job security for pc people....

It would seem that it's purely an information services issue, in that they have no willing to learn a UNIX based operating system, and no willing to learn the specifics of the mac. They want to outsource the support - what kind are you going to get when you're on your AVID PC editing and all hell breaks loose. You're going to need an AVID person anyway, and I doubt joe bloe mcse is going to be of much use in helping you....

Editing sytems need specialist support, wether they be mac, pc or linux based.

I feel your pain, and as someone who's been through that kind of crap, I know they're making a wrong business decision, which they'll find out about the first time there's a big deadline and your AVID goes down the drain, and the tech support company they hired cannot fix it, or "accidentally" wipes your media drive or something.

John,

That's a nice forum! I would love to see something like that here (in a different color - allowing thread editing and the ability to post .jpgs).

Sweet! Good luck with it! I'll drop by now and then to see if I can lend a hand!

Just adding my two cents ... Have you seen the cost of Avid support contracts !!! Good luck Joe.
Re: Dual 1.42 and Motion

I've got a copy of Motion, and my Radeon 8500 video card won't let me install. I have a Cinema display and a DVI monitor. What are the options? I am willing to upgrade my card, but I don't want to buy an adapter for each monitor, thats more $$$ and seems crazy. Whats the latest on the Radeon 9800 Pro Mac SPecial Edition? Is it hopless?

Gregg -

I have a ATI 9700 Pro OEM card, unused available. I bought it to install in my dual G4 1GHz, only to find that it's only compatable with the Mirrored Door G4. Let me know if you want it. It's a qualified card for Motion, and needs no additional power connections or adapters. What I will need for my G4 involves all of those things.

Let Me Know
