Motion is SLOW???
August 10, 2005 10:06AM
I just upgraded...from Panther to Tiger and from FCP HD set to the Studio set - and Motion is acting as if it is having some serious problems. FCP is fine, but motion can't seem to keep up with itself???

Running a G5 - plenty of space...dual processors....any ideas?

You have to be more specific... what are you trying to do in Motion that's causing you to have such difficulty?

What is your video card?

How much RAM do you have?

What are your Comp Settings / Output Display Settings?

Power mac G5
Dual 2.0 Ghz
2 Gig Ram
160 Gig Hard Drive
ATI Radeon 9600 AGP Card
250 gig western dig sata drive

start there....I quit Motion and am ignoring it for a bit - was irritating me - so, I'll go back to it in a bit...

Yes, maybe just eating to much...

Try to shorten the raw footage or scale down the image that you not plan to use or over the zoom ratio that you don't needed.

And don't feed it with too much effects before you learnt the limitation of motion=)

The real time responses of your system should be speeded up somehow.

Good Luck,

Irritated or not... you only answered half my questions... can't try to help without more info:

What are your settings (Project Properties / Preferences)?

What were you doing when this issue came about?

What is the VRAM on the card?

I would move up to 4 Gigs RAM (but that's just me).

Motion is TOTALLY dependant on the video card. The ATI 9600 is listed as the slowest card that can support Motion. The ATI X800XT is currently the fastest card that will work in a G5.
