This can't be right

Okay, this can't be right. Everytime I Duplicate one clip from a layer, it bumps everything down a whole other track. Eventually it gets out of control! What am I doing wrong?

That's correct, you can't have more than one object on a track in Motion. But you have access to every object on the layer itself, so you can close the layer and still select, move, and trim in the timeline.

Editing systems are usually track based, motion graphics applications are usually layer/object based. It makes sense for the kind of job they do!
