When to use Motion

When to use Motion

Hi All, I noticed that when I open Motion, the default time is set for 10 seconds. This made me wonder how long, time wise, are typical Motion projects. I haven't used motion before, only FCP. I am looking to make an 8 minute music video. Is that too long to try to do in Motion or should I stay with FCP? Thanx Barry

I would start in FCP, build your edit, time out all your cuts to the music, and basically lock your edit. Then, send clips or groups of clips to Motion for adding animation, effects, etc. - rather than sending your entire 8-minute edit to Motion. Although you could do that, and work in small sections.

All compositing softwares are intended to do task specific operations on small clips. Anything that can not be done in FCP can be sent to Motion for more intensive work.
There was a section in one of the early Motion Apple Pro Training books about editing in Motion but I can not imagine why?
