My video card, Motion, and maximum res

Firstly, according to Apple Docs, a video card with 256M should be able to
do up to 4096px.

Here are my specs

Mac OS X 10.4.11 Dual 2.5Ghz PPC G5 2G RAM

ATI Radeon 9800XT with 256M RAM

Display Left LG MW30LZ11- 1280x960 MOC (millions of colors) Display Right Cinema HD Display 1920x1200 MOC (millions of colors)

I need to do a presentation at 2400x600px, but Motion says
"sorry, your hardware only supports up to 2048px"

Is there a way around this?

Your card is a 2K card. The amount of VRAM is different than the texture limit.

OK I talked to the boss, and he said for this job
"If we need a better video card, let's get one"

Remember I have a G5; but could you recommend a card
that would allow us to do at least 2400px?

Thanks for your help.

Not many options for the G5 - see if you can find the Nvidia 6800, it does 4K. Be very careful to get a card that works in Macs, not just PCs, and specifically in your model of G5 - could be PCI or PCIe, you'll need to check. There could be other cards too - key is the texture size limit, you'll want 4K (or 8K if you can find one for the G5)

According to About this Max the Video Card is AGP.
I wonder why the UL4Ds are pcie though.
So this mac has both!
