sphere filter in 3D

sphere filter in 3D

Hi,

One more question!

This is a corporate client, and I have created a "sphere of logos" for one part of the video. Basically, I created a 3D group, and put a Sphere filter on a collage of images. Works great. I can rotate the sphere by changing the X position.

But, all of the images get really pixelated. In 2D, the images are sharp, with plenty of resolution. But, when I put them into 3D and add the Sphere, they look awful. The client loves the effect, but I'm not sure how they'll respond when they see the "hi-res" and the logos are so awful-looking.

Is there a particular reason why my 3D looks so bad?

Thanks!

Oh, and if I "flatten" the 3D layer, the images get sharp again, but they don't rotate when I change the X position.

What's weird about this is that other places that I did the same thing worked great. No resolution loss. Any ideas what I am missing?

Do you "see throughout a camera" ?

it shouldn't be to close from the objects in that case

an another possibility is a Fixed Resolution getting in the way on one of you element. search throughout your composition and un-thick any Fixed Resolution you might encounter

Did you set view to "Best"?

Yes, I am in "best." Plus, I am rendering it in FCP, and I wouldn't think the problem would carry over, if it were a Quality issue.

It is possible that my camera is not far away enough, as Francois asked. This was sort of my first attempt to use cameras, and it may be that I don't understand how they work, and that I changed some parameter in this animation that I didn't change in the others, while I was experimenting.

What eventually fixed the problem was to "Flatten" the 3D group that I used the sphere effect on (which contains all the logos I was putting on the sphere). That meant that simply manipulating the X position of the group did not on its own spin the sphere. Instead, I had to use the X parameter within the "Center" parameters of the Sphere filter. In addition to rotating the sphere, that also moved the sphere left or right. So, I had to compensate for that by doing a corresponding X position manipulation on the group.

But, once I "flattened" the layer, I no longer had the resolution problem. Just a somewhat more convoluted task to make the globe spin.

One problem Motion 4 has is it is 2D objects in 3D Space.

With programs like 3ds Max, you have True 3D objects in 3D Space.

To get the effects you describe in a 2.5D program like Motion require more workarounds.

Maybe Motion 5 will add some 3D primitives like a sphere AND 3D mapping parameters.
