Motion 4, acting retarded

Characters are invisible in one project. Have a credit sequence where the roll was working but has stopped, I finally replaced it with a motion path just so I could make some progress. The software isn't acknowledging fades. So text just pops in and out. I'm going to nuke preferences, any ideas what to do after that?
