Motion files opening and become "untitled"

I am working on a motion file. I opened the file to continue working on it and it opened not with the name it was given, but as "untitled". This would require naming it again. I closed the "untitled" window without saving and my work was lost. I reopened the file with the proper name and it did not update with the work I had just done. Is there some reason for this behavior? Shouldn't the window have the original name of the file? Am I doing something wrong?
