Speed changes in STP

can you place a track of fully composed music in STP and then speed is up or slow it down?

i can speed it up in protools but what it does is look for breaks in the music and tryies to cut them out which throws the timming out of wack and creates points where the beat is off.

i want to use stp like a turn table and slow or speed up the music without effecting its timing. sorta like the speed slide on a technics 1200 turntable.
