Advice on a new mixer

I've been using STP with an Alesis USB 8 mixer. The Alesis has issues with OS 10.4. cannot monitor playback without problems.

I need to bump up to a better mixer in the $1500 - 2,000 range. Anyone have a recommendation on a higher end mixer with USB or firewire that works flawlessly with OS 10.4? I just need at least 16 inputs - will use it for FCP editing/STP, voice-over recording, podcasting and producing internet radio talk show
