Punch in and out with a pre-roll STP2

Hi, I'm only writing to you as a last resort. I have spent so much time trying to figure out how to solve my problem and I know it's simple. Please help me, with your vast experience and expertise.

I am used to (with other audio editing software). Setting an in and out point, and pre-roll, and having the editor, cut at the in point and start recording and cut out at the out.

I don't want to hear the previous track when I am punching in. Even with the multi-take editor, it seems that the previous track is heard, this is very confusing when trying to add a different part.

Isn't there a way to just set an in and out and perform a simple edit with pre-roll

I posted and got no responses. Thank you, I am not new to computers, and even the littlest help I can find my way. I guess Sountrack Pro 2 doesn't do what I want. Hmmmmmmm You are a God on the computer who can end my suffering.
