Audio filter for tone removal

A school where I assist has a school "bell" that rang before we finished a live switch interview. I'd like to filter out this nearly pure 440 Hz tone. I've dinked around in Soundtrack Pro but don't seem to find just the right filter (pack?). I've been looking for a "notch" filter with a very narrow freq. range. I've tried sampling the tone and doing a noise removal but it wasn't very pretty.

Footage is DV with 48kHz audio. I can post a sample if anyone really wants to hear it.

TIA for reading.

Thanks Moderator, for moving this to Soundtrack forum.

If you are using the audio file mode, you might try viewing the file in spectral view. You should see a much brighter line where the bell occurs. You can actually select the line representing that tone and delete it. Depending on the overtones, it may not delete completely, and it will influence the sound of anything else during that time, but it also may help.

Good luck!

Matt
