Hello Martin,
congrats and welcome to the FCP X club!

FCP X crashing? I didn't get it to crash so far, but I got it to clog up the memory in a matter of a minute. Open FCP X, put a clip in the timeline, apply some effects and 4 GB of memory are already full, which makes OSX start to swap memory out on the HD. This makes FCP X horribly slow.
And yes, I did switch off background rendering. This feature is neat, but a total energy waste (my Mac uses

Yes, QC Integration FX does about the same thing like NI's package. QC Integration FX makes Quartz Composer files available as fully usable plugins for FCP, FCP X and Motion 2-5.
Inputs are created by publishing a input of a patch. The published name is then the name of the parameter. The type of the publish input defines what kind of parameter will be created.
For example:

I'd like to proudly announce that all of my FxPlug plugins and Quartz Composer based plugins are now fully compatible and available for download for Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5
The updated packages are:
- QC Integration FX
- Svengali Rays Pro
- Svengali Rays Lite
- 3D Video
- Key Pro
- CHV Magic 3D FX
- CHV Morphing FX (only works with Motion 5)
- CHV Particles Heaven FX

The new plugins work without Motion 5.
But I still recommend to also buy Motion 5. It's just $49 and it has a fully functional FxPlug 2.0 interface. FCP X does not have a plugins interface whatsoever and completely relies on Motion template files. This has a variety of disadvantages, because not all functions of the FxPlug interface can be published in a Motion template.

I've re-uploaded the image to another (this time my) server. It should work better now.

I am right now high on C++ code. Tens of thousands of lines of code had to be evaluated, changed, fixed, adapted and reprogrammed. The last 2 weeks I was working like hell on my plugins to make them work with FCP X and Motion 5. The result: All of my FxPlug plugins and Quartz Composer based plugins are now working fully with Motion 5 and almost all of the with FCP X. There are a few that I cant g

Here is some more info about London:
- Gas is $9 per Gallon.
- The sun only shines above the clouds.
- There is no beach with (silicon) beach babes.
- There are 10,524 cameras in London, watching you all day long.
- There is no Hollywood in London.

The 1% ratio was maybe 10 or 15 years ago. Realistically about 6-10% of all desktop computers are Mac computers. It depends on the source of the info. Some even have higher numbers... which I doubt. I think 10% is a realistic number.
But: As iPhones (over 100 million devices) also run OSX, the number of attackable devices should be high enough for criminals to be seen as a target.
Oh well.

The purpose of the firewall is to block ports which potential viruses need to get quietly into your system without any action from you.
On a PC there are a lot of ports open, which eve

I know about the firewall. But: Do you have it turned on? I don't (Allow all incoming connections)... and probably 99% of all OSX users also don't have it turned on. Most probably most users don't even know that there is a firewall.
The main purpose of a firewall is to ignore incoming connections that might plant executable code into your system, launch code, read valuable data, change setting

Yes. Apple's operating system OSX is based on a VERY secure core. There were already numerous attempts to break in to OSX and to write harmful software. So far there is no way for a real virus to function as a virus should be functioning, like they do on the virus plagued Windows computers.
OSX is also running on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, which are connected to the internet 24/7 without

Boris said that they have the "intention" to release software for FCPX. They did not say anything else. They did not speak about updates, new plu

Are there any 3rd party (plugin) developers that signed an NDA and are able to release FCPX compatible plugins at FCPX's launch date?
Of course I will also rewrite/redevelop/adapt/recompile my plugins to make them compatible asap after FCPX is available.

Currently there are no viruses for Mac computers. This said, it is pretty hard (=impossible) for any software company to develop an anti-virus software if there is no virus. Consequently all anti-virus software products for Mac computers are worthless and are probably serving a different (or even a harmful) purpose.

Actually it was (kinda) fun to fix the board. I haven't worked with mySQL databases in a while and it was good to dig deep and write cryptic commands in the shell, hoping at the same time not to grill the board (I've made a backup of the database before I came along with the terminal commands... just too be safe).
Somebody asked: How can this happen? Actually, it should not happen. But it did.

After digging deep in Mike's mySQL database for many hours: The board is fixed and is back to normal again.

Thanks!
I still have to fix the thing with your user account, which was also damaged in the turmoil. All your old message show up as "Anonymous User". The link between the messages and your repaired user account is broken. Let's see if I can get this fixed, too. :-)

Simple:
261,406 posts, 12099 user entries and 1 error in the database, possibly due to the overwhelming user activity during the SuperMeet.
I've just fixed the message database and all is well again (in terms of the messages).

A UPS is very important and an absolute necessity in the US (unfortunately). I've never ever had any power outage problems in Germany. Only here in the US there are lots of outages, almost all the time (Thanks, Georgia Power!).
I have a Mac Pro, two 30" Apple Displays and a few other things connected to a APC XS 1500. It's powerful enough and works perfectly catching all power outages...

Hard drives in an external enclosure are not as fast as internal hard drives. The reason is the bus they are connected to.
An internal hard drive, profits from the Gigabytes that can be transfered over the internal bus. The only "weakness" is the read/write speed of the hard drive itself.
If you put the same hard drive in an external enclosure then you have 2 additional devices in

One more thought:
Dropped frames can also come from a not fast enough decoding process by the CPU and/or a too slow/overloaded system bus. The speed of the drive is fast enough, but then the CPU needs to decode the compressed ProRes stream. This is much more complicated than to read an Uncompressed stream with a much higher data rate from the drive.
To the OP: Do you have a CPU monitor? (I

No. The graphics card does only get what is already been read from the drive. It does not matter if you scrub or not.
