If you have some media in the original media folder inside the library bundle and you don't want it there, all you need to do is to use the Consolidate command to move it wherever you want - and the media will be automatically replaced with sym links so there will be no need to relink anything.
As to FCP X forcing you to copy media, that should generally only happen if you are importing from a

Steve, you need to make sure the phone is held horizontally when you start recording, otherwise you'll get a vertical video, which I'm vehemently opposed to:

Very strange, never seen that before. Also, the stabilizer in Motion is exactly the same as the one in FCP so you shouldn't expect different results...

Here are some other options that I've made

Put your background in a 2D group at the root level. 2D groups at the root are not affected by cameras (or lights).

You choose the quality level in Motion (if exporting directly from Motion) in your export settings; or if you embedding your Motion project n FCP, you choose sequence settings, go to the render control tab, and set the quality level there.

Absolutely, you can import .ai or .pdf vector files. The key to scaling them infinitely is to turn of "fixed resolution" by selecting the file in the Media tab of the Inspector after importing it, then in the Media tab of the Inspector, uncheck the Fixed Resolution checkbox.

Although FCP may incorrectly interpret the field order, I have never seen it "place a Shift Fields filter" onto it. That would surprise me if it were the case. Are you sure about this?

Best thing would be to look up Match Moving in the Motion help - it describes how to do this.

If you left it as a .psd, you need to make sure the color mode is RGB, not CMYK.
Or, if you only need one layer with transparency, save it as a .png with alpha.

If you are working in 3D, instead of using a drop shadow, try adding a "floor" and a light so that you are casting "real" shadows instead of using the drop shadow.

Use an image mask.

Motion is able to access a lot of RAM, more than the 4GB limit, from my understanding.

You are welcome. Even if you "stay in the circle" sometimes FCP misses that flag....

Sometimes FCP misses the anamorphic flag on Motion projects. Just select the Motion project in FCP's browser (or timeline), press command-9 to bring up item properties, and add a checkmark in the anamorphic column.

I would contact the vendor.

Shelley,
I would "open copy in Editor" from FCP and try the different Fit options for the dropzone in the Inspector.
by markspencer

Just drop it in. FCP will resize it to fit. Of course, it will be letterboxed since the aspect ratios don't match.

It's not Motion that is the limitation, it is your graphics card. Depending on the card, you can go up to 2K, 4K, or 8K.

Seems like you are mixing up codecs (e.g., ProRes) and resolution (e.g., 1920x1080). I can't tell what you are trying to achieve.
by markspencer
- Motion
It's your graphics card. The texture limit on the 4870 is 8K so you should be ok. I'd export at 1920x1080 using ProRes HQ.

I'll toot my own horn:

Make a new 1920x1080 project and copy your groups into it by copy-paste or dragging.

Option-clicking the Activation checkbox of a layer will solo the layer - turning off all other layers. Option clicking it again will bring the others back on. If you can't tell which layers have been solo'ed, select them all, go under the View menu, and select Active - there is probably a dash next to it, indicating some layers are active, some are not.

You need to make sure you limit the highlight to just the letters you want to affect.

In Motion 4, use the Adjust Glyph tool to select and modify individual fonts (or words).
In Motion 3, just highlight the font (or word) you want to modify.
