Ditto, Derek!
Having had an early bad experience via FCP, I use the QT self-contained route; then QT conversion, or MPEG Streamclip, or HandBrake. But I've never tried using a full-quality ref mov. Never felt too confident using Compressor either.
Best wishes.

FCP and everything else seem ok here as well.

Let's hope the rain is over in beautiful Cambria, Mike. I hope you and your wife fully enjoy your (wedding, right?) anniversary and the start of a good year.
¡Feliz Año Nuevo to all!

Tom,
According to Apple, FC Express does accept AVCHD.
Mauricio,

If you use the default FCP scroll text tool, you can get the space you want separating the titles/names with an asterisk (no spaces). The space can then be modified in Gap Width (Browser>Controls).
The flickering can be avoided by following Jude Cotter's suggestions.
Good luck!

Same here. I just read about the passing of this great, irreverent but classy comedian.
I too feel grateful for those laughs.

Abre Library > Application Support > Final Cut System Support > Plugins. Ahí coloca lo plugins. Se activarán al arrancar FCP nuevamente.

Carolina,

Weird! It sounds like, at some point, the camera fried the SD card; otherwise, there at least would be a format on it (so it'd be read by any pc (Mac or Win). As for avoiding that from happening, the only one I know is to always set the safety latch on the card after video-recording.
As a last resort, I would try to read that card using Disk Utility on a Mac. And, if it mounts, apply repair.

Daniel,
Although strypes and Tom are right, before you go and buy a firewire 400/800 adapter I'd like to know: Did you restart FCP after plugging the camera to the external hard drive and turned it on?
I use a GL-1 hooked to an external all the time without a problem. Of course, some FW drives are not that good at daisychaining.
Good luck.

FCP 7 is supposed to take much less hard disk space. Of course, you'll have the option to not install some of the media on the discs.

I've used the Intensity Pro card for more than a year and it does what it promises: good analog input/output and HDMI. But it only works on Intel Macs and, of course, the Imac models are out of the game. The card it's also a great alternative for using a new HD screen for monitoring from FCP.

Best is to start with a good cardioid mic; supercardioid if possible.

To copy via USB cable, the camera must be powered with its power adapter, not with the battery. The camera will mount as "No Name" folder. A better way is to mount the SD card using a USB card reader to copy the AVCHD files. Then use FCP's Log and Transfer as derekmok indicated.

If I understood correctly, he wants to export several clips at a time and have those as individual clips. If you know how, please share again.

Buena suerte.

I've done a couple of 1920x DVDs by simply exporting the 1920x1080 sequence to QuickTime mov - same settings - then importing the mov file into iDVD, which has 16:9 format. They look great on my 46 HD screen.
