Installing FCS "3" won't delete LiveType...you can keep using it

First, you don't have anything in the Search field, do you?
If not, not sure you can just move everything from a PowerPC machine to an Intel machine - I'd suggest a reinstall.

In Motion did you set the preferences to view on the external monitor?

So nothing happens. Apple discontinued development for Shake a few years ago, they announced it, and folks use it anyway. This announcement should really come as no surprise, I guess I don't see what all the fuss it about.
And no, Motion 4 is not the new Shake, not at all. It's a motion graphics application, not a visual effects compositing application (although you can do some vfx tasks in it

I have never hear of this problem (and I thought I'd heard everything). What version of Motion are you running? On what hardware, what OS? And have you tried trashing your preferences?

You could try right-clicking the Motion projects, choose Open in Editor, make sure they contain all links, and then resave the projects. If that doesn't work, you could always render out of Motion and replace the Motion project file in FCP with the rendered QT movie.

Not many options for the G5 - see if you can find the Nvidia 6800, it does 4K. Be very careful to get a card that works in Macs, not just PCs, and specifically in your model of G5 - could be PCI or PCIe, you'll need to check. There could be other cards too - key is the texture size limit, you'll want 4K (or 8K if you can find one for the G5)

Your card is a 2K card. The amount of VRAM is different than the texture limit.

Easy to do in Motion using dropzones in order to quickly replace the content...

Use an image mask.

1) Quit Motion.
2) Navigate to User/Library/Preferences.
3) Locate com.apple.motion.plist and delete it.

You could track the footage and blur it selectively in Motion - here's a tutorial to get you started:

By default, Motion scales down large skills to fit the Canvas. Two solutions:
1) Make your project size match your photo size
2) Change the default behavior in Preferences.

Do you mean you can't see the guides that you create by dragging out from the rulers, or that you can't see the actual rulers themselves along the top and left edges when you turn them on under the View pop-up menu?
Either way, have you check that all the appropriate items are turned on under the View pop-up menu at the far right of the Canvas?
And have you tried trashing your preferences f

That's because a 3D group can't have a fixed resolution. Try flattening the group first.

Why don't you just delete the white background? Or, if it's created in Edit > Project Properties, set it to Transparent.

I really don't think that will work but haven't tested it - it just doesn't make sense that it would work. If you add an edit point to a Motion project embedded in an FCP sequence, that doesn't give you access to handles in the underlying FCP clips that you sent to Motion - it just gives you handles on the Motion project itself.

Except that it won't work. Not when you send all your clips over at once. It could work when you send each clip independently, but that would would defeat the purpose of sending the ciips to Motion in the first place.

You shouldn't be seeing a gamma shift, period.

AE is is layer based.
If you are using FCS I would use Motion - learning curve isn't as steep, great integration with FCP and DVDSP, and a tremendous amount of content for building your projects - and if you own Final Cut Studio you already have Motion.

Nice little samples - keep at it!

I answered this in your private message - but just for others: transitions, filters, and generators don't make the trip from FCP to Motion so you need to work with that fact. One way is to do all your transitions in Motion by creating them yourself.

There are a lot of ways to describe these but here's one:
Motion: primarily for motion graphics, layer-based
Shake: primarily for VFX, nodal-based
AE: does both, layer-based

Cool - thanks for posting your solution.
