You can burn in Compressor if you use the preset or setup a disc burn job action.

I seem to recall some issues with Premiere and OS X 10.8 because of the way OS X presents mounted AVCHD volumes. I'm not sure if this issue was fixed yet.

Why's that?

Avid can import QuickTime movies. What codec were you using?
How are the drives you are receiving structured? If they have an Avid MediaFiles folder containing the MXF files they should relink just fine. Is the drive formatted as

We've got one in Pro Media Tools too. It's especially useful at handling image sequences because it has several features for finding gaps, renumbering frames, modifying padding, etc. I use it all the time for dealing with VFX shots.

Some theaters accept tapes and QuickTime masters too. It's best to check.

You can't send to Compressor 4 directly from FCP 7 but otherwise it's compatible. It's not vastly different to be honest.

I didn't realize just how many unique features FCP 7 had until Apple killed it.

LTO-4 (800 GB) and LTO-5 (1.5 TB) will both read LTO-3 tapes. Or were you looking for a non-tape based solution?

I agree with Andreas, switching to another NLE that you don't know with it's own set of quirks and limitations is a bad idea in the middle of a project. Your task is made easier by using P2 media. P2 media is DVCPRO HD in an MXF container - you do not need to transcode it, all you need to do to get FCP to recognize it is to rewrap it to QuickTime. You can do this easily with FCP's Log and Transfe

Dean, if you enter your license information again it will re-register.

I think it's a matter of personal opinion. I didn't get Creative Cloud because I generally prefer to own things and not be tied into contracts if I can avoid them.

Recovering deleted files can be hit and miss, and it gets expensive fast. I'd recommend trying something like Data Rescue or Tech Tool Pro to try to get it back, but if the basic tools don't work I wouldn't recommend paying for professional forensic recovery when it sounds like your project could be recreated.

Does he have the same version of the Canon AMA plugin as you? I seem to remember there was once a problem relinking between different versions of the Canon AMA plugin.

Do you have a name set for your computer in the Sharing dialog in System Preferences? Not having one can cause issues like this.
Also, are you submitting to This Computer or a cluster?

How much RAM do you have? Apple recommends 1 GB per Compressor instance but it really depends on the codec. For low-complexity codecs like DV you can probably use every core without penalty but for more complex codecs like H.264 you may need to scale it back.

Auto Transfer in Pro Media Tools does this too.

This is absolutely correct, however FCPX has a feature that will let you edit off the card and then it will replace it with the local media once the transfer is complete, so it would seem as if Apple advocates this type of workflow even if it's not recommended.

Marianna is definitely the person to sort this out; it's unfortunate she's on holiday. She's helped me in the past with serial number issues.

Are you sure you're entering the correct number? When I first registered Pro Tools the code was not where they said it would be and I had to enter every number on the card until it finally accepted one of them.

And it's very well supported by third party developers and template creators.

I am running OS X 10.6.8 and I ran that on Compressor 3.5.3. I just did a test in Compressor 4 too and that worked fine.

I unfortunately have no knowledge of how it was created and there's no info in the metadata but you may be right that it's IBP.

I just did a test with Compressor and converted a 5D MkIII clip to ProRes 422. The resulting file contained a timecode track and the values were correct in QuickTime Player and FCP 7.
