Page peel transition - 5 years ago
Hi guys, I have added some static images to a static background, depicting a notebook. I'm using the page peel transition to create the obvious effect. To make the images blend a little better into the background, I used a slight bit of feathering with the 'Soft Edges' filter. The problem is that now as soon as the transition starts, an ugly border appears around the images just where I feaby stefangs - Café LA

I agree this exporting stuff is awkward and confusing. At least in my case, the timeline preview window looks quite different in lightness and contrast from a 'Export Quicktime Movie'. The export looks fine, but the timeline looks much darker and has much more contrast which makes editing quite difficult guesswork. I believe that Dennis mentioned at some other point it has to do with the way Fby stefangs - Café LA

Still trying to get better at my aging editor... In the L&T window, can I disable the importing of audio for a whole bunch of clips at once? This would be great for adding a bunch of B-roll footage. Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA

So I ended up getting an entire Mac Pro, including the graphics card, for less than a card replacement :-) Once I sold the rest of the Mac for scrap, the card may almost be free! Cheers, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA

Hi all, I have a split screen video where I'm cropping two tracks, one left, one right. I want to blend them a little using feather, but that feathers all sides, not just the cropped ones. How can I feather just the overlapping section? Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA

Hi Loren, only saw your post just now. I don't think I formatted the card on the MAC, and the camera formatted it as FAT-32. So it looks like the camera never knew that the Mac has written something to it. Stefanby stefangs - Café LA

Hi all and (almost) top of the new year! I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd ask here anyway... my Mac Pro (original 1,1) just gave up on me. Booting displays a lot of vertical yellowish lines, the Apple logo appears, then disappears, then nothing. Sometimes the screen does dark blue. I've done the usual PRAM zapping and detaching from mains, then holding the power button, etc. to no avby stefangs - Café LA

Even more weird is the fact, that sometimes it does work. If I have filters on the clip, it won't, so I render a small bit to video, then export a frame from that output. This sometimes works, but in this case it went darker anyway. I can't figure it out. Stefanby stefangs - Café LA

Hi Dennis, I'm glad one of us knows what's going on ;-) I read up on gamma and in the wikipedia article it says right there: "A notable exception, until the release of Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) in September 2009, were Macintosh computers, which encoded with a gamma of 0.55..." Hi Dennis, yes it is exactly that: an exported Prores file from the FCP6 timeline. I just tried again - if I export a little clip to another movie, it looks fine, but if I export a still frame, it's darker. The image in the timeline looks darker too, but I've gotten used to this by now, it seems to always be that way. On export, it looks ok. Hi Dennis, that option is already set in my QT player, so unfortunately that's not the reason. I had forgotten about this setting, though, and I can't remember why I checked it - it could very well have been another thread of mine here! Stefanby stefangs - Café LA

Hi all, I imagine the following: - Talent stands in front of the camera and pulls a virtual screen from outside of the frame in front of him. I've been resonable successful with this by animating a rectangle following the actors hands. The rectangle is on another track with composite mode set to 'add', so it's a little translucent and looks ok. - Talent now draws a virtual line graph witby stefangs - Café LA
Imported clips darkening - 6 years ago
Hi all, I have a completed video a while back and I forgot to make a screen shot of a still image from it. So now I imported the master (a pro res clip) into the timeline and the whole thing is significantly darker than the clip actually is. In other words, if I play the clip in a quicktime player (or finder preview) it looks normal, but in the FCP timeline it is darker with absolutely nothby stefangs - Café LA

Hi guys and top of the new year! The first thing I did this year was to delete a file from my SD card in the camera that I was about to use. After searching left and right deep inside the internet, I downloaded an app from Panasonic called AVCCAM SD Card File Recovery. It chewed on my card for a while and brought back the file (and then some), but not the AVCHD structure it claimed it would doby stefangs - Café LA

Hi all, I'm trying to export a still frame from my timeline, but I only get the source footage without any effects applied. I tried both the 'make freeze frame' and export with quicktime conversion options. Where's the right command? Thanks, Stefanby stefangs - Café LA

Not that I understand, but it works now. What I did was writing something to the card on my Macbook Pro using the built in card reader. After I did that, I could also write to it on my desktop Mac with the USB card reader that didn't work before. Makes sense, right? Stefanby stefangs - Café LA

Hi all, my SD card is driving me crazy, because it won't let me write files to it. Searching the net turns up zillions of the same silly tip: sliding the write protect tab on the side of the card. There are even Youtube videos that show how to do that! Well, my camera has no problems writing to this card, but on my Mac it is always shown as protected.
