I've never seen one come close to maxing out either the capacity of the network link or the theoretical throughput of the drives. They aren't designed to be high speed storage systems. If you want that, you need to spend moreby Sean Harding - Café LA Re: Anyone using Network Attached Storage devices (NAS)? - 13 years agoI have a ReadyNAS but it's nowhere near fast enough for real time video use in my experience. I just use it for backups and sharing files that I need to have accessible from multiple machines (generally not video because I only work with video on one machine). For those purposes, it works great.by Sean Harding - Café LA Re: extract mpeg file from VCD - 13 years agoI'm pretty sure the files on VCDs are MPEG files. Try opening it in MPEG Streamclip or VLC. You might need to change the file name extension to .mpg get it to be treated as an MPEG.by Sean Harding - Café LA Re: Lesser of evils for FCP (HDV v AVCHD) - 13 years agoI just backup my files to a RAID NAS as well as an extra external drive (I rotate them). Less trouble than burning DVDs. Critical stuff also goes offsite (hours of raw footage from random personal projects with no client involved don't necessarily qualify as "critical" in my system). Generally, how careful I am depends on the nature of the data. IMHO the most important thing to keepby Sean Harding - Café LA Re: Lesser of evils for FCP (HDV v AVCHD) - 13 years agoThanks all. AVCHD was more attractive to me anyway, since I'd prefer to not deal with tapes, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't some reason I should prefer HDV. Glad to hear there's not!by Sean Harding - Café LA Lesser of evils for FCP (HDV v AVCHD) - 14 years agoHi all. I'm new here, but I've been lurking for a while. I've never worked with either HDV or AVCHD, but I'm thinking of picking up a cheap to mid-range camcorder for random personal stuff that doesn't warrant a better rig. I've seen various complaints about HDV, and to a lesser extent AVCHD (I'm guessing partially because it's newer and less common). I'm just curious if either one is significby Sean Harding - Café LA |
