I usually do not use my own equipment but edit on in-house systems that these production companies own. I am at a fairly early stage in my editing career, and have worked with both AVID and FCP. The only audio we can get to work properly is the analogue audio - which means that we have to do two passes to lay down all 4 tracks - not to mention the theoretical loss in audio quality.... Aby Adrian Zehn - Café LA AES / EBU audio problems... - 16 years agoHi, I have been using a KONA LH card with FCP 5.1.2. When outputting to Digibeta, using SDI for video and AES / EBU for audio (going to 4 channels) the audio is bad. While I am laying down to tape all appears ok - the green channel condition light comes on (indicating good audio), and when I monitor with headphones straight from the deck, the audio sounds fine. However, when I play back the taby Adrian Zehn - Café LA HDV to standard def for broadcast... - 17 years agoHi, I am going to be onlining a show that was shot in HDV 1080i29.97. The OFFLINE editing was done in photo jpeg. I will need to uprezz all the footage and graphics and produce a final version for broadcast on standard definition (Digibeta). Any suggestions as to the best workflow? At what point should we convert the HDV footage to standard def 4:3? The final codec we are using is DVCProHD1080i29.97. For the SD footage in the timeline, which was captured at uncompressed 8bit, we are resizing and then need to convert to the DVCProHD codec. I have just come onto this job and the process they are using involves exporting each clip with the DVCProHD codec, then reimportby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Re: 24p normal DV flicker / pulse issue.... - 17 years agoHi..... I see the flicker on my computer screen as well..... Aby Adrian Zehn - Café LA 24p normal DV flicker / pulse issue.... - 17 years agoI have received a bunch of footage from another editor which was shot on an XLR2 - it is I believe 24p normal DV footage (not advanced). This footage was then turned into "true" 23.98 footage with cinema tools. The footage looks basically good, but there seems to be a slight pulse or flicker constantly through it - it is most obvious on brighter / lighter images or parts of the scby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Template / Chapters issue - 18 years agoI am trying to make a template with DVD studio pro 4. What I want to do is quite simple I'm sure - must be a very common operation that DVD studio pro would surely have a easy mechanism for....but I just can't work out how to do it. Aby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Media reader that reads FCP timecode? - 17 years agoHi, I'm looking for a media reader that will read FCP timecode (so they can open the quicktimes and see the timecode) so someone who is on a mac but doesn't have FCP can log tapes. Does this exist? Adrianby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Re: Batch capture uprezzing problem - 17 years agoHi there, Thanks for the suggestion.....I just created a new folder for the online media and set it as the scratch disk (although physically it is on the same drive - i have no other option....no space anywhere else).....no change..... I have posted this problem on 4 forums (cafe LA, 2pop, creative cow and here) - only this one response.....looks like FCP goes to the trash can and we go back toby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Batch capture uprezzing problem - 17 years agoI have a project at offline RT that I am taking to uncompressed 10 bit..... It is a compilation episode - part of a TV series where all the other eps have already been onlined. This episode is made up of chunks of the other shows - which have been assembled from the offline sequences - and in general are now being redigitized from scratch in the episode sequence timeline. I know how to do this but have no idea what it actually does. Disturbingly neither did he.....he just knew he wanted it done. Can anyone explain what this does and why it might be imported for onlining? Thanks Aby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Re: Edit to tape with Kona LS and DSR45 using RS422 - 18 years agoInvestigations have indicated that you cannot use RS422 to edit to tape with the DSR45 (even though it has RS422 that you can use to control the tape as a player - this deck is a record deck but does not operate as an edit record deck through RS422). Sucks. Boycott Sony. Aby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Edit to tape with Kona LS and DSR45 using RS422 - 18 years agoUsing Kona LS going component in and using RS422 I am trying to Assemble edit and FCP will not allow me to do it......the options are 'greyed off' and will not select. Using Sony DSR 45. Has anyone else had this problem? Someone has told me that they think even though the deck has RS422, that this particular model will not allow you to use RS422 for insert or assembly editing. The editor I am supplying the VO to was annoyed that the sound files I was giving him (.mov) had to be rendered when he put them in his sequence. He told me that it must be because they were at the wrong khz rate. When I looked at the files mine were 48khz, so I presumed he must have needed 44.1khzby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Voice over audio problem - 18 years agoI need to record a bunch of VO at 44.1mhz. At the facility where I am doing this they have been recording using quicktime pro - the audio recording function. I have a mic hooked up to a mixer, which goes directly into the MAC audio input. This works......except by default the files are 48mhz and I can't work out how to change this setting. I have to convert the files after recording - very annoyiby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Re: Blur Plugin for FCP - 18 years agoThanks all..... Gives me a good idea of the options.... Aby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Re: Blur Plugin for FCP - 18 years agoHey Shane, Thanks.....this kinda works....but is still a bit clumsy.....surely someone has developed a filter which makes this kind of thing easy to manipulate over time.....watch any reality show and sometimes every second shot will have blurs on it.....?by Adrian Zehn - Café LA Blur Plugin for FCP - 18 years agoI will need to do a lot of blurring out of brandnames etc for a documentary. Does anyone know if there is a good filter that allows you to create a keyframable blur shape that you can move, change in perspective etc. Otherwise the only way I can see to do it is to copy the layer you are working on, place it above the original layer, crop the top layer using the motion tap and apply the filter tby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Re: Email project file problem - 18 years agoHi All, Zipping it up worked....didn't try the FTP or yousendit as this seemed the easiest to try first. Thanks Adrianby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Re: Email project file problem - 18 years agoWe are doing this via email. The director was able to use the file I sent him just fine. I had already checked the extension and it is fine. Can this 'binary format' thing apply to email as well? Adrianby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Email project file problem - 18 years agoI am editing a film where the director and I both have copies of the media independently at our houses. I made a cut and emailed the director the project file. He was able to open up this project file and see the film on his FCP system - we cloned the drives and drive names so he doesn't even have to reconnect. However, he then sent me back a sequence he had worked on via email and FCP will notby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Re: Broadcast safe settings.... - 18 years agoIs there a particular level I should tell the graphics people not to go outside of? Is 'pure white' an industry term that will be understood, or is there a numerical or other measure used? In terms of the actual size of the project, I'm not sure what you are referring to.....is it all of the media??? If so it is several hundred GB - probably about 700gb. Adrianby Adrian Zehn - Café LA Re: FCP RAM problem - 18 years agoFurther to this.....the original project file I was working with was about 70mb in size. Then I made a copy of this project file, and added a few things to it from another project - which itself totals only about 40mb in size. Now the total size of the new project I have been working with is 343 mb in size - clearly this is probably the problem....but why the hell has my project grown so massivelby Adrian Zehn - Café LA |
