So it cost me an hour of my life, and a tape. He did return my email with a phone call, but I didn't get any further than that! Sorry, its been a mad week. JR.by jusrus - Café LA Re: DVCPRO HD -> Beta SP - best practice? - 16 years agoThanks Jude. Just sent an email - I'm onto it. G'night.by jusrus - Café LA Re: DVCPRO HD -> Beta SP - best practice? - 16 years agoFor real in that I made 6 phone calls, and only one gave me a potential solution, 5 didn't want to know. In the past I've actually sent post stuff to Perth for BetaSP cause its been cheaper than Melbourne (including express post at both ends) and had it back in a week. So yeah, if you have someone who will ACTUALLY TELL ME THE BEST WAY TO DO IT (sorry, a little frustrated here) at my end, I'lby jusrus - Café LA Re: WAY OT: Why Sydney, and not LA? - 16 years agoQuoteJudeThe few things I remember from LA - a very dark comedy club, a weird hotdog shop that was an actual big hot dog that you sat inside, the boulevarde, the bowl, the walk of fame, the chinese restaurant, a very large house in bright pink, a very nice kingsize bed and VHS right to your room! Don't forget the lawyers.....though its funny, 6 of the 9 things on your list are on mine. No pinkby jusrus - Café LA Re: DVCPRO HD -> Beta SP - best practice? - 16 years agoOK, so none of the post houses in my city (supposedly a film captial!) want to deal with me and my DVCPRO HD project. Funny. The only one that I felt understood what I was trying to do told me to output to miniDV and they'll deal with that. Is that the best way for me to deal with this? I can't possibly see that going from HD -> miniDV -> SP Beta is better than going HD -> SP Beby jusrus - Café LA DVCPRO HD -> Beta SP - best practice? - 16 years agohi all, ok, i've finished my first DVCPRO HD clip - very happy with the results. Now to get it to broadcast! I don't have access to a betaSP deck, so I'll have to go to a dub house at some stage. Its currently sitting in my timeline in FCP - what is the best way of preparing it for transfer to betaSP? The only thing I have with me is my HDV/DV Canon camera - do I just down-res to DV anby jusrus - Café LA Re: Tech Question; more Ram? - 16 years agoI think we need more info, but I'm with Derek. If you are getting 10-15 second pauses and a hollow arrow cursor, my experiences over the last 5 years suggest that your system is underpowered for what you are trying to do, or at the very least un-optimised. Are you working off your system drive? Your 'workaround' suggests maybe there might be an issue with your source footage? Or your projby jusrus - Café LA Re: how to back up 5 ext HDs onto one 2TB drive? - 16 years agoi agree with Shane - media manager is your friend here.by jusrus - Café LA Re: Versioning 6.0.1/6.0.2 - 16 years agoIt's not backward compatible as far as I'm aware. When I upgraded from 6.0.0 to 6.0.2 and opened an old project, when you save it warns you with a "This project won't be able to be opened by an older version of Final Cut Pro". I think you'll need to do the XML thing, or upgrade to 6.0.2. Is there any reason why anyone wouldn't be upgrading to 6.0.2 from 6.0.? anymore?by jusrus - Café LA P2 Tip - 16 years agohey all, I'm sure all you experienced P2-ers know all about this, but I didn't, and it killed me for a good 3 minutes till Google solved it. All files from a P2 store once copied appear as locked. There are a lot of files from each P2 card. Changing the status one by one would be silly and time consuming. Hold Shift while you select 'Empty Trash.' This should override locked protectionby jusrus - Café LA Re: Time Machine or SuperDuper or What to backup? - 16 years agoWow - LaCie have a backup program. I'm not saying anything..... FWIW I use Super Dooper to backup my system drives - I'll give Time Machines a go when I get a chance this week on my MB which has just been upgraded to Leopard. My file management is good enough that I can backup all current projects with one click and drag. Good enough for me.by jusrus - Café LA Re: Versioning - 16 years agoHey all, I've got 3 machines here, now all running FCP 6.0.2. I am working on a music video project shot on a HVX200 - 720p24 something or other. The machines are Dual G5 (PPC obviously), MBP 2.16 and MB 2.16. Due to my hernia operation last week, the project has been copied/moved around these machines. I can report no issues what so ever - open project, change scratch disk location, geby jusrus - Café LA Re: Ftp sites and video - 16 years agoI like MediaFire.Com for quick and dirty...by jusrus - Café LA Re: I want to cut on Air in the water - 16 years agoQuoteakThe tone of a lot of these posts surprises me for some reason. It seems that if it's not remotely useful in a pro application it's somehow dumb? I don't get that. I think if it's of no use to me, it's, well, of no use to me. It's only a matter of time before a producer sits behind me and asks if they can use the DVD as a remote disk. I know writers will snap these up and I like the facby jusrus - Café LA Re: I want to cut on Air in the water - 16 years ago12 orders so far, and of course, no one here in Australia has actually seen one! If they keep selling at this rate, I'm gonna have to get one to show off....by jusrus - Café LA Re: I want to cut on Air in the water - 16 years agoYep they will sell heaps (I've already had 10 calls this morning) but I don't think it will be to any of us. I'm dissapointed - Im sure its sexy, but its still ain't a replacement for the 12inch PB...by jusrus - Café LA Re: OT: Slim Apple laptop expected at Macworld - 16 years agoDon't bag the phone Jude - it saves me carrying my laptop every day - I truly love it... And I don't want a touch screen, I just want to finally replace my old 867 PB g4 12 inch with something equally silver! Cmon apple cmon....by jusrus - Café LA Re: Capture HDV settings? - 16 years agoYeah, the firewire cable thing is odd....can't really see any reason for it. When I plugged in my recently purchased HV-10, I had old miniDV footage on a test tape then shot HDV footage on it. If the tape was at an HDV point when the firewire was plugged in, bingo. If at standard DV point...bam. At least we all know now....by jusrus - Café LA Re: buying computer - 16 years agoI'd go lower processor and more RAM. And don't buy Apple RAM or HDs - they're a rip off, especially considering they no longer use quality RAM (Hynix anyone??)by jusrus - Café LA Re: OT ffmpegx export? - 16 years agoGood idea Nick. you could make the VCD in Toast, but save it as a disc image, then just rip the folders off?by jusrus - Café LA Re: how do i handle this thin font - 16 years agoOh dear....I can't believe I won't get those 3 minutes of my life back...sorry if this is a flame. Good luck.by jusrus - Café LA Re: P2 First Experience Questions - 16 years agoHi Shane, Thanks for that - should I re-import my footage? Would the preset (I guess standard miniDV PAL) that I had going have effected the import? You are the guru when it comes to all things P2.... Justin.by jusrus - Café LA Re: P2 First Experience Questions - 16 years agoThanks Shane, watched it earlier, and think it should replace the FCP 5 version currently in the FAQ. Any advice for project setup?by jusrus - Café LA Re: OT ffmpegx export? - 16 years agoHey Koz, I've done this with FFMpeg. 2 years ago probably. Unfortunately, all I can tell you about it now is it was a pain, but I made it happen. It can definitely be done. FFmpeg is finicky about your input file, so make sure that is something that it can deal with - but I presume you've already been there....by jusrus - Café LA P2 First Experience Questions - 16 years agoHey all, OK, I have finally used a HVX200. Yes, the shots are amazing (particuarly with 35mm adaptors), and yes, the workflow (for a video clip shoot) was excellent (even with only 2 4gb cards) worked well. I didn't shoot the video (I was in the band!), and the DOP has left his firestore with me as he was off to New Zealand the next day. I'm sure at some stage he told me what rate/resoultby jusrus - Café LA Edit native HDV or ProRes? - 16 years agoHi all, My first purchase into HDV arrived via eBay today - the Canon HV-10. Just playing around. Very impressed so far. Had a look at the FAQ that suggests (Mr Nattress from memory) that I edit in HDV native in FCP. Other sites I've seen suggest that 6.0.2 can capture into ProRes via Firewire on high enough specced machines, and the quality in graphics improves, and render times are redby jusrus - Café LA Re: POLL v2: Does HDV actually suck or not? - 16 years agoI vote YES. But you can always spend more money. Is it just me, but does every option on the market at the moment have fairly severe limitations in some form? Only used Sony HDV cams, never had issues with import/export - looking forward to my next one where I'm going to import via ProRes and see the difference - will I see the difference? FX1.. Ta. Aussie, aussie, aussie.... I reckon there is (well packed) 3 times as much room as my 15 inch MBP.by jusrus - Café LA Re: OT pictures on forum - 16 years agoClassic. There are other Aussies here you know Maybe not with the regularity and knowledge of Jude and Nick. And I never for a second considered Jude was a guy - weird that I wouldn't I guess!by jusrus - Café LA Re: What is the normal Pay Scale for editors - 16 years agoAs a fellow auuuussssssssiiiiiieeeeeeeee mmmmmmmmaaaaaaattttttteeeeeeeee I will work for beer on a hot day. But I don't do anything for less than $250AU a day in Melbourne - and that's mates rates....by jusrus - Café LA |
